Methodology, interpretation & sources
Purpose. LEL = Lower Explosive Limit (also Lower Flammable Limit, LFL) | UEL = Upper Explosive Limit. Converts between a gas detector's %LEL reading and the actual gas concentration (% by volume), and classifies the reading against common confined-space action levels.
How to use the result. Start with source data you can verify, enter values on a consistent unit and time basis, and record the assumptions used. Limitations. Actual fire behaviour depends on ventilation, geometry, fuel distribution, ignition sources and protection-system performance; simplified results cannot represent every scenario.
